Do students need school computers or an install on school devices?

Accepted Answer

No. Students use WitSpeak on their own iPhone or Android phone or tablet, so there is nothing to install on school computers. Teachers open the teacher panel in a browser. Students only need a quiet moment to speak; we set up class access together during onboarding, with no separate IT project.

Which ages and English levels is WitSpeak for?

WitSpeak works best with students aged 13 and over: middle school, high school and pre-university or foundation classes. For younger groups, we look at fit with your class during the demo call. It covers beginners with a guided beginner mode through to IELTS-style speaking practice, and the teacher panel shows each student's CEFR level and estimated IELTS band.

What exactly do teachers see, and what can't they see?

Accepted Answer

Teachers see weekly activity, speaking minutes, streaks, homework completion, CEFR level, estimated IELTS band and the hardest sounds, per student and per class. If a student agrees when joining the class, teachers can also read written transcripts and corrections of that student's practice sessions; students can turn this off at any time. Teachers never get access to students' voice recordings, and sessions a student marks private are never shared.

How is student data and parental consent handled?

In a school program, the school is the data controller and WitSpeak processes student data on the school's instructions. Practice data is used only to power the student's own feedback and progress. There are no ads, no selling of personal data, students' practice audio is never used to train our models, and schools can request deletion of their students' data at any time. For students under the digital-consent age of their country (for example under 16 in much of the EU), class membership is activated only after a parent or guardian consents — via an emailed consent link or the school confirming written consent on file. Our privacy policy spells out exactly what is collected.

Does WitSpeak work with Google Classroom, Moodle or Canvas?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In Google Classroom, teachers connect their own Google account, publish WitSpeak homework to a linked course, and grades go back automatically. Moodle and Canvas connect through the LTI 1.3 standard: teachers add WitSpeak homework from the course, students open it there, and scores flow into the gradebook. Only the score is sent — never voice recordings or transcripts — and our team sets up the connection together with your LMS admin.

How do teachers assign English speaking homework?

Accepted Answer

In the teacher panel, the teacher picks a role-play, shadowing, pronunciation or IELTS-style task and assigns it to the whole class or selected students, once or every week. Students complete it out loud with Mia on their phones, and completion shows up in the panel and in the weekly class report. If your school's LMS is connected, the score lands in the gradebook automatically.
